The SwanK

okay so here we go with the ever sought after Round Two. what would the evolution of the BSD be with out one of my now infamous ranting and raving about music?? i dont know...but i've never been one to let people down much (okay so the fact that i havent really done anything with my life is a big let down to some buuuuuuuuuuuuuut that doesnt count in this matter now does it?)

so i've come to the relization (thanx in part to one of my co-workers) that music totally peaked out in the year 1987. my backing to this arguement. name the two Classic albums made by big name bands that were around that year (ie. U2, INXS, George Michaels, Guns and Roses). Joshua Tree, Kick, Faith, Appetite For Distruction all classic landmark albums for the respected artists. so what was it about 1987 that made these albums come out in force and made music peak?

1987: Platoon wins the both Golden Globe and Oscar for Motion Picture of the Year; Montreal Candiens win their 22nd Stanley Cup title; Ronald Regan is president of the USA; the INF agreement is signed between the USSR and the USA; the Stock Market Crashes on "Black Monday"; Andy Warhol dies at the age of 59....

i dont quite remember much of my 6th year gracing this planet. i was probably stuck listening to Raffi and Sharon, Lois, and Brahm, but i do know now that some great music came out. songs that screamed of both sex and a simpler time. songs like U2's With or Without You (the most romantic song EVER, guys you wanna make a girl melt play this one...); INXS' chart topper Need You Tonite (pure sex atop a tick-tock beat and an insect funk guitar); Guns and Roses' Welcome to the Jungle (sex sex sex sex, sex sex sex sex, sex sex sex sex); or George Michaels' I Want Your Sex (that one just says it all...totally awesome tune!!!). the song titles as well as the songs themselves. i mean totally what happened?

we have yet to achieve that same level of musical greatness that we had then. i do think it will be a long time before we do hit that peak again. we'd first have to get rid of some of the shit ass bands out there now. for example, you know it is a sad day when a band can title a song "She Fucking Hates Me" and have a hit with it. you know its even worse when you can swear to Buddha, Allah, and Jesus the local rock station was bought out by one record company cause they wont play anything other then what was made by that label....fuckin CJAY...and even worse when you can chat it up with a co-worker that totally shares your views about the issue.

my co-worker and I over the last month have compiled a list of the Classic Albums that came out in the year 1987. here is a few of them:

Artist

Album

U2 The Joshua Tree
INXS Kick
Areosmith Permanent Vacation
Beastie Boys Licence to Ill
The Lost Boys Sountrack to the Motion Picture
Guns 'n' Roses Appetite For Destuction
George Michaels Faith
Def Leppard Hysteria
Michael Jackson Bad
Whitney Houston Whitney
Crowded House Crowded House
New Order Substance

okay so you see where i'm coming from with this one. the best albums i can think of and rate as 'Classic Albums' were released in the year 1987. of these, who's left these days? U2, Def Leppard and Areosmith have released brand new albums in the last few years. INXS has released the Shine Like it Does Anthology, the Definitive INXS collection, and Stay Young (1979 - 1983) all within the year 2002 (as well as the J4K tour with new front man Jon Stevens formerly of Noiseworks). Neil Finn (crowded house) released a live disc in early 2002. and although i dont quite think i see a new album comin out anytime soon, G'n'R just ended a rather horrible tour. George Michaels took the smart way out. and well yeah, who really gives a flying fuck about the rest of these has been rockers??

anyways, i've failed to find someone who fails to share my opinion on this one when they actually stop and think about it. fuck, i even had a friend of mine call me three days later and say "you know what shit head your fuckin right!"...god i love that
